Meet Our Dogs

There are three working dogs in the Salem Police Department’s K9 unit. Each dog has completed a rigorous training regime within each of their areas of experience.

I’m K9 Derby!

K9 Derby, an English Cream Golden Retriever, joined the SPD in 2022 as the Community Resource Dog and works with School Resource Officer, Jessica Rondinelli. Derby shares his time in the schools, the community, and special events and programs where he offers compassion and support to everyone he meets.

I’m K9 Liberty!

K9 Liberty, a black Labrador Retriever, joined the Department in 2023. She is certified as a Narcotics Detection Canine and works with Officer Jason Balzarini. Liberty serves Salem and surrounding communities to locate drug-related evidence.

I’m K9 Madden!

K9 Madden, a black Labrador Retriever, joined the Department in 2023. He is an ATF certified Explosives Detection Canine that works with Officer Keegan Stokes, who is also an ATF TFO (task force officer). Madden is trained in a variety of different odors that allow him to search for firearms and explosive evidence in Salem and the surrounding communities. All the K9s contribute to community programs and education and work hard everyday.
